Guyanese woman chopped to death by Bajan ex-husband

A 64-year-old Guyanese woman was murdered in Barbados last evening allegedly by her ex-husband who is a Barbadian national. The woman has been identified as Brenda Taylor-Belle.

Public Relations Officer, Inspector David Welch of the Royal Barbados Police Force told News Source that the incident took place on Tuesday evening at Cutting Road in Haggatt Hall, St. Michael.

Inspector Welch said from initial reports the woman, Brenda Belle was visiting a male friend in that area when her estranged ex husband arrived at the friend’s house and began breaking the windows of the home.

Reports indicate that the woman and her friend ran from the house but the suspect followed them until he caught up with her. He was reportedly armed with a cutlass and chopped the woman multiple times about her body. She died on the spot.

Moments later, the woman’s house in St. Barnabus, St. Michael was engulfed in flames. The police believe the ex husband carried out the arson just after committing murder. The two once lived together in the same house on the outskirts of Bridgetown.

The suspect is now a patient of a hospital in Barbados after he drank a poisonous substance. He is under police guard.

Under Barbados law, the name of the suspect cannot be released at this stage. Investigations into the matter are continuing.
