GWI Board fires Debt Recovery Manager over qualifications

The Guyana Water Incorporated has announced that its Board of Directors has terminated the services of Debt Recovery Manager, Lear Goring.

The decision came following a specially convened board meeting on Thursday.

Goring was sent on administrative leave pending investigations into reports that he was not qualified for the position of Debt Recovery Manager.

The GWI statement added that the decision comes following a review of Mr. Goring’s credentials, which do not satisfy the requirements outlined for the position.

It added that it should also be noted that the decision taken was based solely on a review of Goring’s qualification for the job.

A recent report in the Kaieteur News questioned the hiring of Goring who was deported twice from the United States twenty years ago after being convicted of drug trafficking. The GWI release suggests that those convictions had nothing to do with the decision to fire him.

Goring, who is close friends with the GWI Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Richard Van West Charles, was hired for the job without a vacancy being announced or advertised. However, under his watch, GWI collected more than $1 Billion in outstanding debts.
