Harmon to unveil questionable Jagdeo land deal

Minister of State Joseph Harmon has announced that he intends to make a massive revelation about former President and now Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo and convicted US-based Guyanese businessman Ed Ahmad as early as next week.

Earlier in November, Harmon had threatened to make the revelation while addressing party supporters during a regional conference at Vreed-en-Hoop, Region #3.

However, when asked on Wednesday about the “unflattering” revelation, Harmon said it will be forthcoming by the new week. The revelations allegedly surround a land deal between Jagdeo and Ahmad.

“I will release something to the Guyanese public, where Jagdeo again during his administration arbitrarily gave a piece of land in Georgetown to his friend Ed Ahmad,” Harmon had hinted.

Ahmad, who has pleaded guilty to mortgage fraud in the U.S, is to be sentenced in New York for mortgage fraud conspiracy on January 15, 2016. The transaction between Jagdeo and Ahmad was reportedly never recorded under the Lands and Survey Commission.

There is however, a lease document that was found by the APNU+AFC government at the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL) and which had become the subject of an investigation.

Jagdeo has also been heavily criticised for the acquisition of his house lot along the East Coast of Demerara. It is believed that he secured the 1.5 acres of land for a price far below the market value. Other members of the former PPP government have also come under fire for their acquisition of prime lands in the area referred to as ‘Pradoville 2’

The PPP has also been exposed in the Red House deal where the state property is being leased for $1000 monthly for a 99 year period.
