Insel Air launches Guyana service with big ticket sale

Curacao flag carrier Insel Air will officially begin its service to the Guyana market from June 18, 2014 and the carrier is already promising to remain in the Guyana skies for the long haul.

The airline will be offering non stop flights from Guyana to Aruba, Curacao and Miami. Additionally, because of its partnership with a number of U.S, Canadian and European based airlines, travellers seeking to connect to those destinations will be able to do so from Aruba and Curacao.

As part of its launch into the Guyana market, the airline is offering special introductory fares to Aruba, Curacao and Miami from Guyana. Vacation seekers and shoppers could fly to Aruba for US$256, to Curacao for US$299 and to Miami for $337. The special fares are all return fares and are inclusive of all taxes. Travelers will have until June 15, 2014 to book the flights for the special fares and they will be able to travel  on the special fares until December 15, 2014. Bookings could be made through several local travel agencies and Roraima Airways.

At a Duke Lodge reception to launch the airline’s move to the Guyana market, Insel Air Chief Executive Officer Albert Kluyver said his airline is very committed to the Guyana market and intends to play its part in developing Guyana as a tourist destination for vacation seekers who choose its service. He said one of the advantages that the service from Guyana to Aruba will offer is that passengers going on to Miami will enjoy pre clearance of the flight in Aruba. What that means is that when those passengers arrive in Miami, they will be arriving on a local flight and therefore, would have no need to go through US immigration and Customs, since they would have already gone through those checks in Aruba.

Guyana’s  Minister of Tourism Irfaan Ali said he is pleased with the move by Insel Air to invest in the Guyana market. He said the Government of Guyana welcomes the addition to the airline industry here. Ali said the move by Insel to come into the Guyana market, will offer its customers the unique opportunity to experience Guyana’s tourism product, which he said is “totally different” from what is being offered in the Caribbean and is not  the regular boring white sand and sea.

Roraima Airlines will serve as the the General Sales Agent for Insel Air in Guyana. The company will also be in charge of all ground handling of Insel flights. Roraima Airways Chief Executive Officer, Captain Gerry Gouveia, told the reception that Guyana is now seeing good moves in the tourism industry. He said with the government’s decision to invest in the Marriott hotel and a new airport, there will be the need for better and more choices in the air.

The airline already flies to a number of Caribbean destinations including Jamaica, St. Maarten and the Dominican Republic. It also serves a number of South American destinations.

The carrier will be operating the MD-80 aircraft which could accommodate up to 157 passengers. All of its flights from Guyana to Miami are expected to have a brief stop over in Aruba. The airline started operations in 2006.
