Laing Avenue man remanded to jail after firing shots at man for flirting with his girlfriend

Moments after a Laing Avenue, Georgetown man was placed on bail for discharging a loaded firearm, he found himself before the same Court and was remanded for being in possession of an illegal firearm.

24-year-old Jermaine Phillips stood before Magistrate Leron Daly and pleaded not guilty to three separate gun related charges.

It was alleged that on the 11th June at Norton Street, he discharged a loaded firearm in the direction of Troy Grant with the intent to disfigure and cause grievous bodily harm.

The Court also heard that when he committed his first offence, he had in his possession one .40 Glock Pistol and 17 live matching rounds without being the holder of a firearm license.

The Police Prosecutor objected to bail and related to the Court that it was on the day in question that the accused confronted the virtual complainant over flirting with his girlfriend.

He discharged several rounds in the man’s direction.

The Prosecutor further stated that later that day, the Police acting on information went to the house of the accused and saw him with a black bag.

He ran from the scene but was later apprehended with the illegal gun in the bag.

After the facts of the matter was read Phillips was placed on $400,000 Bail for discharging the loaded firearm but was later remanded for the possession of ammunition and the gun.

He is set to make his next court appearance on August 7th.
