Linden businessman gunned down at home during robbery

Police investigators in the mining town of Linden are probing the shooting death of businessman, Romel Gomes.  He was attacked and shot dead at his home in Wismar Housing Scheme.  He operated a grocery shop at the same premises.

The man was found with his hands tied up. There are reports that a woman contacted the Police after going to the shop and seeing the man tied up with two other men standing close to him. It was moments after she ran from the scene, that a gunshot was heard.

The assailants escaped with the businessman’s new car.

In a post on her Facebook page, his wife, Althia Gill said the murder has left her completely broken.

“I am feeling broken, my heart has been broken, I’m torn apart. Heavenly Father only you can see me through this ordeal because I have to be strong for my baby boy Romani. Im trying to type but my hands would not stop trembling and the tears can’t stop flowing” she wrote.

She said the men who maliciously murdered her husband “shall not know peace in their lives anymore, they shall live uncomfortable. Lord I pray that you would expose them and they shall be brought to justice, in Jesus name.”

The couple have a young son together and the wife said the toddler has been asking for his “papa” endlessly since the murder.

Police investigators are working on several theories. According to reports, earlier in the day, the businessman “drew down a box hand” and it is suspected that the robbers were after his money.  The probe is continuing.
