Man busted with cocaine in flour and rice  remanded to prison

31-year-old Alex Massay of Lot 60, Middle Street Skeldon, Berbice was remanded to prison on Thursday after he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates court and was slapped with drug trafficking charges.

The man was an outgoing passenger at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport when agents of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit carried out a search of his suitcases and discovered just over 26 pounds of cocaine stashed in packets of rice and flour in the suitcases.

He was not required to enter a plea for the indictable charge when he appeared in court.

According to the prosecution, Massay is the holder of a 10 year multiple US Visitors visa who was about to make his third trip to the United States when the bust occurred on Tuesday afternoon. He was preparing to board a non stop Dynamic Airways flight.

He was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
