Police were called to the scene of an apparent case of suicide on Wednesday afternoon when the body of a man was discovered hanging from a rafter at the bottom of a house in Liliendaal on the East Coast of Demerara.

The identity of the man has not been released. However, residents in the area identified him as “Palo Machamootoo”.

He appeared to be in his late 40’s or early 50’s and was clad in a blue jeans and a short sleeve brown shirt with white sneakers on his feet.

From all appearances the man jumped from a nearby bench in the yard after reportedly placing the rope around his neck. Persons in the area were shocked by the discovery.

A Police investigation is ongoing.
