Police investigators are probing the death of a 27-year-old man from the Meadowbrook area who was gunned down in his house just after returning home last evening after a night out with his girlfriend.

The incident reportedly took place just before midnight. The dead man has been identified as Jason Cort. He worked at the Rubis company in the accounts department.

Investigators believe the young man who was a licensed firearm holder, may have come face to face with robbers just after he returned home. Investigators believe also that he may have attempted to use his weapon but was shot to the chest before he got that chance.

His weapon, a sum of cash and other items are missing from the house, according to police.

Devastated family members and friends gathered at the house this morning as they comforted each other.
