Miner dies after being tied up and beaten during robbery

Police investigators are hunting for two gunmen who attacked and robbed three miners at a mining camp Issano. One of the badly beaten miners succumed to his injuries on Monday while receiving medical care. The incident took place last Thursday.

The dead miner has been identified as 35-year-old Joseph Nurse of Mahaica.

Nurse and his colleagues were in their  mining camp in the interior region last Thursday when two gunmen attacked and assaulted them after tying them up. The miners were badly beaten as the men raided the mining camp.

The men left the miners tied up but they eventually freed themselves and Nurse was rushed to a hospital where he died from his injuries. Police investigators have traveled to the mining community to launch a full probe.

The mining associations have been complaining about the frequency of attacks and murders in many of the mining areas. There have been calls for more police patrols and outposts in many of the mining areas.
