The partly decomposed body of a young man from Mocha Arcadia on the East Bank of Demerara was found in the backdam of the Mocha community on Friday morning and police investigators believe he was murdered.

The 26-year-old man who has been identified as Dellon Melville was last seen alive on Monday  night. According to his relatives, he was at home when he received a call and left the family house to meet someone. He never returned home and by Tuesday, relatives filed a missing persons report with the police.

According to a relative of the man, it was strange for him not to return home or contact anyone and they became very concerned about his whereabouts. They are now of the view that he may have been lured from his home by whoever was the person who called him on Monday night.

Police sources say the man’s body has a wound to the neck and they do not believe that he was murdered in the same area where his body was found. His body may have been dumped there after being murdered somewhere else, a police source said.

An investigation is underway.
