Moses to the People: Are you prepared to accept five more years of Ramotar?

As the Alliance For Change gets ready to move its no confidence motion against the Government of Guyana, Vice Chairman and Member of Parliament for the party, Moses Nagamootoo believes that it is time Guyanese ask themselves if they are prepared to accept five more years of the Donald Ramotar administration.

Once the no confidence motion is passed, the President will be forced to call early national elections. If he decides to block the debate on the motion by dissolving the Parliament, he would still have to call national elections.

The reality of national elections early in the new year has raised questions about the readiness of the political parties to head to the polls.

At a Thursday afternoon press conference at the Georgetown Club, Nagamootoo said the elections will be about the people of Guyana, and while the AFC may not be able to match the campaign purse of the governing PPP Civic, the people of Guyana will have to ask themselves important questions.

“We have to go to the people as we are prepared to do on Monday and put a solo question to them. Are you prepared to accept five more years of Ramotar?”, Nagamootoo quipped. He said the issue will be more about whether the Guyanese people are prepared to make a decision rather than it would be about the readiness of any political party.

President Donald Ramotar is threatening to dissolve or prorogue the Parliament if the Opposition parties decide to move ahead with the no confidence motion. The Opposition parties have accused the President of wanting to hide from the ills of his administration.

The Opposition parties are challenging the Peoples Progressive Party to attempt to defend its 22 year record in government.
