Murders mark end of old year and beginning of new year
The Guyana Police Force has found itself investigating a number of murders on the first day of the new year.
According to a police report, on Old Year’s Night, Wednesday December 31, 2014 33-year-old Errol Campbell of Ann’s Grove, ECD, was involved in an altercation with two other men at Ann’s Grove during which he was stabbed about his body. He succumbed while receiving medical treatment. One man is in custody in connection with the murder.
On Wednesday evening also, police investigators were called to the North West District village of Aracru after 52 year old Augustine Samuels was killed.
The police report states that investigations so far have revealed that Augustine Samuels and another man, who is the suspect in this matter, were imbibing at a shop when the suspect became involved in an issue with the owner of the shop.
The owner of the shop managed to escape, whereupon the suspect attacked Augustine Samuels and stabbed him about his body. Samuels was pronounced dead at the Mabaruma Hospital.
The suspect has not yet been arrested.
And early into the new year, investigations were launched at Mahdia into the death of miner 50-year-old miner Andre Britton of 111 Miles Mahdia, Potaro. The 50-year-old was stabbed to death during an argument over squibs.
Investigations have revealed that Andre Britton had earlier confronted a man, during which the man was assaulted, for throwing squibs into his yard and the man later returned and stabbed him about his body. He was pronounced dead at the Mahdia hospital.
The suspect has been arrested and is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
