Senior Superintendent of Police Wendell Blanhum has replaced Leslie James as the Crime Chief of Guyana.

New Crime Chief and New Head of Presidential Guard Service put in place

A number of changes were on Monday effected to the Guyana Police Force with the President and former Commander in the Guyana Defence Force, Brigadier David Granger declaring that security will be priority on his agenda.

Senior Superintendent of Police Wendell Blanhum has replaced Leslie James as the Crime Chief of Guyana.

James was in the position for just over a year and he has now been transferred to work in the Office of the Commissioner of Police.

The change took immediate effect on the first working day of Mr. Granger’s presidency. Granger met with Persaud early on Monday after an initial meeting on Saturday. 

The new Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum has been serving in the Guyana Police Force for more than a decade and will be one of the youngest officers to ever serve in the key security position.

Blanhum previously served as Detective Divisional Officer ‘C’ and ‘A’ Divisions and Deputy Crime Chief.

He was awarded the best student in the CID induction course and topped the Investigators Course and also completed the Standard Officers Cadet Course

Meanwhile, APNU member and former Police Commissioner Winston Felix told News Source late Monday that ‘B’ Division Commander Brian Joseph has been appointed as Head of the Presidential Guard Service.

He said changes in B Division as well as C, D and E Division are to be expected.

Calvin Brutus who heads the E Division is expected to take up a position in B Division.

Minor changes in the Traffic Department at Headquarters are also anticipated.

Christopher Griffith who commands C’ Division is expected to be transferred to D’ Division.

Changes are also expected to come to A Division which is being headed by Asst. Commissioner of Police, Clifton Hicken.
