North Ruimveldt man and daughter in law shot in home invasion

Police investigators are trying to figure out what may have been behind a home invasion by gunmen in the North Ruimveldt area on Saturday night that has left a 67-year-old man and his 31-year-old daughter in law, both hospitalised nursing gun shot wounds.

According to police investigators, the incident occurred early on Saturday  night just after 8 o’ clock when four armed men stormed into the Nutmeg Street, North Ruimveldt house in what appeared to be a robbery.

One of the occupants of the home was badly beaten to the  head with a gun while the gunmen shot two other occupants, George Grimes and his daughter in law Ruth Rodney. Former National Footballer Kevin Grimes who also lives in the house was beaten to the head with a gun.

The elderly man and the young woman were both rushed to the Georgetown hospital with their gun shot wounds. The man was shot to the shoulder and it is believed the  bullet may have also grazed his head while the young woman was shot to the abdomen. They both remain patients under special care at the Georgetown Hospital.

The gunmen may have fired shots at the  two during a scuffle between one of the occupants of the home and one of the gunmen. The gunmen escaped from the house with a laptop computer system and jewellery.

Police investigators have been questioning the younger Grimes and another relative who were beaten during the incident and intend to question the other two persons who were shot.

The gunmen are believed to be relatively young in age.
