Patricia Chase-Green is new City Mayor; Sherod Duncan is Deputy

Former Deputy Mayor and longstanding Councillor for the Georgetown municipality Ms. Patricia Chase Green has been elected the new Mayor of the Capital City.

Chase – Green’s nomination was unchallenged after being put forward by Councillor Oscar Clarke and seconded by Alfred Mentore.

Fighting back tears, Chase-Green thanked God, her team and the citizens of Georgetown for the support she received.

Her election was followed closely by that of the Deputy Mayor which was also secured by another one of her colleagues in the APNU+AFC  coalition, Mr Sherod Duncan.

Duncan and Chase Green both secured major victories in their respected constituencies at the just concluded Local Elections.

Twenty nine of the 30 elected Councillors were sworn in with the exception of Mr Roopnarine Persaud, who was absent and is expected to be sworn in at the next Council meeting.

The ruling APNU+AFC coalition secured 25 seats on the council while two seats went to the People’s Progressive Party.

The other three seats were divided between groups Team Legacy and Benchscop for Mayor.

Friday’s sitting of the Georgetown Council also saw the election of Oscar Clarke as the Chairman of the Finance Committee. His nomination was also unchallenged.

The next meeting of the council is set for 11th April 2016.
