Police Force unaware of any disciplinary matter against Asst. Commissioner Ramnarine

The Guyana Police Force is denying that there is pending disciplinary matters against the Assistant Commissioner of Police, David Ramnarine.

The statement by the Force is in response to statements by the General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party, Clement Rohee at his Monday press conference.

During that press conference, Mr. Rohee, who served as Home Affairs Minister under the PPP Civic government, warned the present government against announcing promotions for senior officers without ensuring that disciplinary matters against them are completed.

Rohee said “it is to be recalled that a disciplinary matter concerning Assistant Commissioner of Police David Ramnarine is among several disciplinary matters slated for consideration at the level of the Disciplinary Authority. Concerns have been expressed about persons whose disciplinary matters are yet to be heard and who have not been subjected to integrity tests being promoted in 2016.”

But in a statement on Tuesday, the Guyana Police Force fired back at the PPP General Secretary over his claim and said “the Guyana Police Force wishes to state that it is unaware of any disciplinary matter pending against Assistant Commissioner David Ramnarine”.

During its time in office, the PPP government was accused of bypassing a number of senior Police Officers when it comes to promotions.

The PPP General Secretary has also accused the government of intruding on the work of the Guyana Police Force by making it mandatory for the Public Security Minister to report weekly to cabinet about the state of security in the country.

Senior government officials have dismissed Rohee’s assertions.
