The Guyana Police Force has announced that it is probing the leak of a nude photograph of recaptured convicted murderer, Royden Williams aka Smallie.

The photograph was reportedly taken moments after the escapee was recaptured and while he was being processed at the Camp Street prison. It was leaked to social media.

In a statement the Guyana Police Force stated that preliminary enquires revealed that “a grossly, unethical, irresponsible and insensitive act was committed within the Prison environment during the period where a recaptured prisoner was being processed prior to his placement in a cell”.

According to the Police, although striping the prisoner would have been necessary for the purpose of complete identity, since there are tattoos about the body, the act of exposing the photograph “will not and cannot be condone.”

This Guyana Police Force issued a warning against the irresponsible use of social media in light of its growing strength, of posting photographs that could be deemed unethical.

Williams was recaptured in a mini-bus on Monday night after being on the run for the past three months. He escaped from the Camp Street prison back in July. Most of the prison was burnt to the ground during that escape and a young prison officer was shot dead.

He was earlier this year sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of eight persons and the manslaughter of four others during the Bartica massacre.
