The Guyana Police Force on Monday announced that some of its Ranks “are making stringent efforts to apprehend a male suspect, who indiscriminately discharged several rounds from a handgun, in the vicinity of a popular gas station, located on the East Coast of Demerara.”

The argument quickly escalated into a scuffle and the suspect drew a firearm and discharged several rounds, one of which struck bystander, Shanis Persaud, to his left hand.

The suspect escaped in a motor car while the young man who was shot was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Investigators have retrieved five (5) spent shells from the scene and investigations are in progress.

And in another case on the East Coast of Demerara, an East Coast resident, Khemraj Gangaram, was shot while passing urine near to someone else’s car.

The incident also took place on Sunday night at Clonbrook.

A police release said Gangaram was relieving himself in the vicinity of a parked motor vehicle, when he heard two loud explosions and observed a man pointing a handgun at him.

He attempted to flee, but felt a burning sensation on his left hand and right thigh and realized he was shot.

He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and admitted in a stable condition. No arrest has been made.
