A Guyana Police Force Sergeant is facing several theft charges in connection with the disappearance of over $8 million in cash from the Police Force.
The Police Sergeant whose name has not been released was taken into custody over the weekend and charges against him could come before the end of this week.
The money was deposited at the Leonora Police Station over a period of time as bail money and as child support payments made by a number of men through the court system for the mothers of their children.
It is believed that the Sergeant who was based at the Leonora police station, may have stolen the money from the accounts department which was overlooked by him.
The theft came to light during a check of the financial records by the financial department of the Police Force.
