A female special constable of the Guyana Police Force is believed to have taken her own life earlier this evening, by reportedly shooting herself to the throat while on the job.

The incident took place in Anna Regina in the compound of the CARICOM Rice Mills where the woman was stationed as an armed guard.

She has been identified as Special Constable Shandal George.

According to reports, she left her base point and headed to the washroom.  Moments later a loud sound was heard and she was found lying lifeless on the floor with the gun near to her hands.

An investigation has been launched.  It remains unclear what may have triggered the incident.
