Policeman died from heart attack

The 23-year-old police constable who collapsed and died while chasing a prison escapee died from cardiac arrest. A post-mortem examination carried out on the body of Dorwin Pitman revealed on Wednesday that he suffered a massive heart attack just moments before he collapsed in an alleyway in the Sophia area and died. He was not electrocuted as was reported by some media houses.

As News Source reported, there were no marks of violence on the young policeman’s body and it was another policeman who discovered him lying on his side in the alleyway as the two chased behind the prison escapee on Monday.

He was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The young policeman’s mother Stacy Pitman told News Source that she is still shocked over her son’s death. “He was a very healthy and active young man, never had any health issue, never had any issue with his heart, so I am shocked over the findings of the post-mortem but he was a good young man”, she told News Source.

Sitting in her North Street, Georgetown home surrounded with friends and family, the woman reflected on her son being the breadwinner for the family. He was the father of two children, a son and a daughter. His daughter is just five months old.

She said there are still some answers she would like to get from the Police Force about the incident that led to her son’s death.

Constable Dorwin Pitman will be laid to rest on Monday in his home town of Essequibo.
