Pregnant woman granted bail over unlawful killing of abusive reputed husband during fight

Reports are that the man arrived home on the day of incident in a drunken state and attacked the mother of his children.  A fight broke out between the two and it is alleged that it was during that fight that the angry woman strangled the man to death.

A Soesdyke mother, who is now pregnant with her fourth child, was today charged for unlawfully killing the father of her children. It is alleged that the woman strangled the drunk man to death, ending years of abuse. 

28-year-old, Melissa Silas appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly and was not required to enter a plea to the unlawful killing charge.

The charge stated that on the 13th May at Soedyke Back Road, the woman unlawfully killed her reputed husband Julian Antony Robera.

The Attorney representing the accused, made an application for bail based on the fact that the woman is five months pregnant and suffers from anxiety attacks.

With no objection to bail from the Police Prosecutor, the Magistrate granted bail in the sum of $200,000 and the accused was told to return to court on June 18th.

Initially, the woman claimed that the man fell and hit his head resulting in his death. But when a post-mortem examination revealed that he died as a result of compression to the neck, the pregnant woman was arrested, and following questioning, she was charged.
