President David Granger and First Lady, Sandra Granger, have been given a clean bill of health after completing the first round of their annual medical examinations at the Good Health Medical Centre in Trinidad and Tobago.

The examinations are being done under a Caribbean medical insurance scheme that the couple have been participating in for over a decade.

In a statement today, the Ministry of the Presidency explained that Mrs. Granger first joined the scheme 28 years ago as a staff member at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, and the President, as her spouse, was eligible to participate.

“The First couple has been traveling to Trinidad and Tobago for annual medical examinations for over 12 years, long before the President’s entrance into politics. They will both undergo two more days of physical examinations and medical tests as part of their annual medical check-up, which is usually done in August each year”, the statement said.

The Ministry of the Presidency’s statement came one day after it announced that the couple had traveled to Trinidad for the annual check up, and many persons questioned why they did not utilize local health services.

The President and First Lady are expected back in Guyana on Thursday.
