President receives COI report on alleged assassination plot against him

At the stroke of high noon, Retired Assistant Police Commissioner, Paul Slowe, handed over his findings into the alleged assassination plot against the President.

Mr. Slowe handed over his report to the President at State House, having completed the Commission of Inquiry into the allegations.

He did not divulge any information about his findings, but News Source understands that it offers a number of recommendations that could see some shake up taking place in the Guyana Police Force.

President David Granger welcomed the report and said he will now take it to cabinet for discussion before the findings are made public.

The Commission of Inquiry was set up following revelations by a businessman that he was offered $7 million back in 2015 to assassinate the President.

The revelations triggered a police investigation, but that investigation itself came under probe, after allegations surfaced about the interference in the investigations by senior Police Officers.

During the Commission of Inquiry public hearings, the investigation of the allegations by the Police Force came under scrutiny, with the two leading officers of the Force offering different views on their thoughts of the investigations.

Police Commissioner, Seelall Persaud declared that the investigation was conducted properly in his opinion, but the Assistant Police Commissioner, David Ramnarine, who acts as the Commissioner in Persaud’s absence, chastised the investigation saying it was not properly conducted.

Much of the hearings focused on the early release of the suspects in the allegations and the charges that were recommended in the case.

During the appearance by investigating ranks, the lone member of the Commission, Paul Slowe, openly questioned the investigators about their conduct during the probe and whether the matter was taken seriously enough.

President David Granger has not offered much comment on the alleged plot, but considered it serious enough to have an independent Commission of Inquiry to not just probe the alleged plot, but to also examine the investigations done by the Police.
