Prime Minister and wife give support to Ptolemy Reid Reham Centre on PM’s birthday

Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo on Monday spent time with children and staffers at the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre to celebrate his 68th birth anniversary.

Mr. Nagamootoo was born on November 30th, 1947 in Berbice, Regon #6.

The Prime Minister spent more than three hours at the Centre touring the facility while engaging and feeding children.

Mr. Nagamootoo and his wife, Sita Nagamootoo also used the opportunity to stick a cake and share a kiss before making a financial donation to the work of the Centre.

While the Nagamootoos have not disclosed the sum of the donation, Mrs. Nagamootoo explained that the money represented proceeds from her charitable organisation. She said this is the first of many years in which the centre could depend on her for this type of assistance.

The Centre was originally established in January 1967 and is capable of providing services for up to thirty residents while the out-patient clinics register in excess of 100 new patients annually.

It has a policy of whenever possible employing and training persons with disabilities and at present in the areas of nursing, security, special education, clerical section, persons with disabilities are represented.

The Prime Minister made a personal appeal for members of the public to also use the opportunity to donate to the work of the centre even as he congratulated the staff for their dedication and commitment. “It takes a lot of personal commitment to work in an institution for otherwise abled children, those who may be looking on from the outside, they don’t know what happen behind these walls and the effort and tolerance it takes,” he added.

Prime Minister Nagamootoo said even when he wasn’t Prime Minister, his family had always held children parties and gave gifts to children. The Nagamootoos also have planned a Christmas party for December 19 on the lawns of the official residence of the Prime Minister.
