Prison Officer remanded to jail over assault of Police Constable

A Prison Officer found himself on the wrong side of the law and was today charged and remanded to prison over the alleged assault of a Police constable.

40-year-old, George Selman stood before Magistrate Leron Dale and entered a plea of not guilty after the charge was read to him.

The Court was told that on the 7th October at the Camp Street Prison, he assaulted a Police constable while the constable was performing his duties.

According to reports, Police officers now conduct searches of everyone going into the prison and on the day in question, Selman presented himself for a search but became annoyed when the Police officer came into contact with an injury he had on one of his legs.

It is alleged that he responded by hitting the young officer.

The Police Prosecutor told the Court today this was not the first time that Selman has found himself before the Court on assault charges. He was previously charged with assaulting another Police Officer.

After listening to the Prosecution’s arguments, the Magistrate remanded the Prison Officer to jail until November 6, 2017.
