Private Security guards arrested after allegedly drawing gun on Government Minister and staff at Restaurant parking lot

A stop at the New Thriving Restaurant at Providence last evening by Minister within the Ministry of Natural Resources Simona Broomes and her staff, turned into a major confrontation resulting in two private security guards being arrested and questioned.

The Minister and her staff were returning to the city from Linden on Sunday evening when they decided to stop at the New Thriving Restaurant for dinner.

Minister Broomes told News Source that her driver had just pulled into the parking lot of the building where the restaurant is located, when a man appeared with a long gun and in a security uniform shouting that they could not park in there.

“The driver pulled down his window and was telling the man that he was just bringing a Government Minister to go to the restaurant and the man just started to curse”, Broomes recounted.

She said she decided to get out of the vehicle to explain to the man that the driver was indeed telling the truth. The Minister said the security’s response forced her to call the Police.

“This man stepped back, raised his gun and started to say he doesn’t give a f%#k about no government minister and he would shoot the driver. Immediately, I called the Police because this was threatening”, Broomes explained.

She said before the Police arrived, another vehicle with other security guards from the private company and the manager arrived, but when the Manager saw her, he started to apologise, saying that his security guards had reported some man running into the restaurant.

News Source understands that the Police eventually came on the scene and arrested the security guards. They have since been released on their own recognizance.

“The Guyana Police Force in a statement today said the matter was being thoroughly investigated. Initial enquiries revealed that both parties seemed to have been very aggressive. Two security guards were arrested and later released on their own recognizance. Investigations will be completed and sent for advice, soonest”, the Police said.
