Public Infrastructure Ministry probing controversial pilot’s unauthorized flights from Ogle

The Ministry of Public Infrastructure has launched an inquiry into the unauthorized flights from the Eugene F. Correia Airport last Saturday by a Guyanese pilot and a U.S pilot.

The two pilots flew the two Cessna aircraft from the airport without any clearance and without lodging a flight plan. The airplanes were blocked by a court order from being flown out of Guyana as part of a pending court case.

The pilots ignored that order and flew the planes to Grenada then on to Anguilla, where one of the planes was detained.

State Minister Joe Harmon at his post-cabinet briefing on Thursday said Public Infrastructure Minister,  David Patterson has informed the cabinet of the inquiry that was launched by the Ministry.

Harmon said the flights were a clear breach of security and aviation regulations.

He said the matter was a very serious one especially since the Eugene F. Correia Airport is an international airport.  He did not give a deadline for the completion of the inquiry but the subject Minister is expected to report the findings to cabinet.
