In defending the theme of the 2016 budget, Region 10 Member of Parliament Jermaine Figueria said the people of his region have begun to realize the good life and eagerly anticipates the stimulation of growth, and the restoration of their confidence.

Mr. Figueria told the National Assembly on Tuesday that the re-establishment of Linden Enterprise Network is a glaring example of stimulating growth and restoring confidence. He said this signals new beginnings for the thousands of “used to be depressed and neglected” people of Region Ten.

He also issued a call for businesses, local and foreign, to invest in Region 10.

“I would like to take this opportunity to invite members of the Private Sector, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and even persons in the diaspora to come and rediscover; invest in Region Ten. Our warm and hospitable residents welcome you under this fresh approach.”

In his presentation, he claimed that the region is experiencing a renaissance and a resurgence of hope under this fresh approach to governance. “Region Ten despite being declared an Economic Zone in 1999 by the then President, now Leader of the Opposition, nothing economical took place unless one wants to refer to being economical with the information we received as a people by strangling us with one PPP propaganda TV channel and radio station or was it in fact the economic genocide we experienced,” he said.

The government MP said the resident’s fortitude and resilience caused them to prevail and declared that Region Ten was ready for development. “The people of the mining communities welcomes budget 2016 as the concessions allocated for small miners and loggers will only breathe hope and relief to them. The restoration of tax holidays to bauxite workers and respecting the bargaining with unions is a clear indication that we care for the working class.”

He pointed out that many of the deplorable internal and external roads have been identified for major rehabilitation and that the major access roads of several communities across the township have already been fixed.

“With the allocation of $40.3 billion dollars to the Education sector, the residents of Region Ten look forward and welcome their Boats, Buses, Bicycles, Books and Breakfasts; a true and real demonstration of a ‘because we care program’.

Further with the introduction of more School Counselors and social support to our future leaders, a good life certainly beckons,” he said.

He added that the commissioning of the two school boats to the residents of Region Ten was most welcomed and appreciated by the parents of school aged children, particularly those in the riverain areas.
