The Regional Executive Officer for Region Nine,  Carl Parker,  was today slapped with sexual assault charges and placed on $200,000 bail.

He is accused of sexually assaulting an official from the same Region Nine community. When the case was called, the proceedings were held in camera, in keeping with the sexual offences laws.

After the brief hearing, Mr. Parker emerged smiling, but in handcuffs as he was led to the holding area.

His Attorney, Jerome Khan, spoke to the media and declared his client’s innocence. The Attorney believes that the accusations leveled against his client are all part of a “set up”, because of many of the decisions the man has been making as Regional Executive Officer.

The Attorney said there may be a move to get Parker removed from office because he would not follow instructions with regards to alleged preferential treatment for specific contractors.

The Attorney said he finds it strange that the sexual assault allegations first surfaced six months ago, but the filing of charges is only taking place now.

The alleged incident is believed to have taken place on June 9, 2016.

Meanwhile, a petition seeking Parker’s removal has since started and is expected to be sent to the President.
