Sanjay’s lose millions in late night heist

Well known Georgetown businessman and jeweler, Sanjay Persaud, says he has been left counting millions of dollars in losses after he was allegedly tied up and his business place robbed of millions of dollars in cash and jewellery.

Persaud claims that he was entering his Sheriff Street business place, where he also lives, just after 11 o’ clock on Saturday night, when he was accosted by four men who forced him into his jewellery shop where they tied him up.

“They tied me up and I tried to call 911 almost 100 times when I got to the phone and there was no response. I then called 912 and somebody answered there”. He said he remained tied up until the police arrived and set him free. Its unclear how he was able to dial the emergency lines for over 100 times while still being tied.

The businessman said the men took away a large quantity of his gold and diamond jewellery along with two safes of cash and other valuables.

He could not give a definite cost attached to his losses.

Investigators intend to see if the man security cameras around and inside of the building may have captured any evidence of the heist.

Persaud who is also a race car driver, was convicted and sentenced to jail last year after he caused the death of an elderly man while driving home after a night of partying.  He appealed his conviction and was granted bail as that appeal is being heard.
