Several in custody following early morning raid of strip club and hotel

The Guyana Police Force launched a major Friday morning operation at the Diamond nightclub and hotel in the werk en rust area.

It was just after 7 o’ Clock this morning that the investigators moved into the area, cordoned off the roadway and began their search of the premises.

A number of women, believed to be from Colombia and Brazil were taken into custody. Investigators suspect that they are here illegally as dancers for the night club.

There has been concern that many of the nightclubs in Guyana are serving as hotspots for human trafficking and illegal immigrants. More than twenty women were taken from the hotel just above the club along with their suitcases.

A senior police officer at the scene said the investigation is an ongoing one and the force will offer details as they become available.
