Siblings die in Blankenburg road accident; Parents seriously injured

Two young children, a brother and sister, have become the country’s latest road fatalities.

The 7-year-old girl and her 10-month-old brother died on the spot early yesterday morning after their father lost control of the family car and slammed into two parked vehicles.

The mother who was with them suffered serious injuries and has been hospitalized. The father has been hospitalized also with a number of injuries.

The incident took place on the Blankenburg Public Road on the West Coast of Demerara.

The two dead children have been identified as 7-year-old Tina Halley and 10-month-old, Marvin Halley. The family lived at Covent Garden on the East Bank of Demerara.

It is believed that they may have been heading to the Parika area when the tragedy occurred.

Police investigators suspect that the father who was driving the car, may have been speeding when he lost control of the vehicle at a section of the road that is being reconstructed.

Just this past weekend 3 persons lost their lives on the country’s roadways in two separate accidents, including a 4-year-old child.

Guyana has recorded over 90 road fatalities for this year.
