Less than an hour after appearing in Court and being placed on $6 Million bail each for misconduct in public office, former Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh and former Head of the Privatisation Unit Winston Brassington posted bail and emerged declaring “we did nothing wrong.” 

Brassington and Singh left the Courthouse after bail was posted and engaged a small group of protesters before speaking to the media and insisting that they did nothing wrong. 

In a short comment, Brassington said “we did no wrong, the evidence speaks for itself and in time I believe we will be vindicated.”

Dr. Singh, however, spoke at length and recalled his service to the country as a Member of the People’s Progressive Party government and member of Parliament. 

“The Guyanese people have entrusted me for more than 20 years with a succession of roles and during those times I took those responsibilities extremely seriously, I discharged them diligently in accordance with the law at all times and in pursuit of the national interest.”

Dr. Singh said he has no fear of the discharge of his duties being subject to the ultimate degree of scrutiny. 

He said three transactions for which the charges are linked were not secret, having been published in the official gazette and a comprehensive document on privatization transactions. 

“What we are witnessing is rule by innuendo, insinuation, fear, and intimidation”

Dr. Singh said there is absolutely no merit in the charges and now asks “where is the big corruption that the APNU+AFC government is talking about.”

He believes and is convinced that the Guyanese people are far too sophisticated to be deceived by the approach of the government. 

Singh told reporters at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court that once the charges are fairly heard they will be discharged soon.
