Sons of Region 10 Health Officer die in Friendship accident; Friend critical

Two young brothers died on the spot on Saturday afternoon when their vehicle collided with a truck at Friendship on the East Bank of Demerara.

The two have been identified as Jonnel Armstrong and Phillip Armstrong.

Their mother is the Regional Health Officer for Region 10, Dr. Pansy Armstrong. Their father is well known dentist in Linden, Dr. Joseph Armstrong.

According to initial reports, the young men and a friend were heading to Linden just before 2:00pm when tragedy struck.   The friend survived the accident and is in a critical condition at the Georgetown Hospital.

An investigation has been launched.

A Police Traffic Officer at the scene of the accident told News Source that it is unclear how exactly the two vehicles collided but based on reports from persons who were nearby and the impact caused by the collision, there was some speeding involved. It is suspected that the truck may have slammed into the side of the Toyota Rav 4 vehicle that was being driven by one of the Armstrong brothers.

The two young men were reportedly heading to Linden to assist their mother in the painting of her home.  Investigations are ongoing.
