Suspected natural gas eruption leaves Diamond house in mud

Officials of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Civil Defence Commission are expected to revisit a yard in 4th Street, Diamond on the East Bank Demerara, where there was an eruption last evening.

The Department of Public Information has reported that there was a small natural gas eruption just after 6 o’ clock last evening and it continued into the late night, sending mud spurting into the air for several hours.

Persons in the area reported, that the owner of the property, in whose yard the eruption took place, sells water in the community and reportedly dug his own well for his business.

Sometime yesterday afternoon, it was noticed that water was rushing through his system and as he attempted to fix it, the eruption occurred, covering the house in mud.

The Fire Service, Environmental Protection Agency and the CDC all hurried down to the scene and remained there for most of the night. The matter is under probe this morning.
