A 30-year-old taxi driver died last evening after he lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a power pole and a parked car on the East Bank of Demerara.

According to reports, Sophia resident, Trenton Dazzel, was returning to the city after dropping off a passenger at Soesdyke when the accident occurred at the Den Heuvel on the East Bank Demerara.

An eyewitness told News Source that the deceased apparently lost control while driving at a fast rate on the wet road.

The vehicle reportedly skidded before slamming into the power pole and a parked car. 

The young man was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre by public spirited persons. However, he succumbed to his injuries sometime late last night.

The Guyana Police Force has reported that over 120 persons lost their lives on the country’s roadways for 2016. Speeding remains the main cause for road accidents across Guyana.
