A West Ruimveldt man who worked with the 007 Taxi Service as a driver, was gunned down on Sunday night in King Edward Street, Albouystown as he made a food delivery.

The dead man has been identified as 42-year-old Oswald Rambarran.

He had gone to the area close to the cemetery just after 8:30pm, when persons in the area said two men on a motorcycle rode up and shot him multiple times. It is believed that both men were armed.

A man who lives close by said he heard at least nine gunshots and when he looked out, he saw the man’s body on the road. Another resident said when she heard the shots, she thought it may have been firecrackers since there was a party close by earlier in the night.

The two gunmen reportedly made their escape riding along Sussex Street.

Police investigators questioned a number of persons at the scene as they sought to recover any spent shells that may have been left behind.  It is suspected that the taxi driver may have been known to his attackers and he may have been lured to the area.

Investigations are ongoing.
