Taxi drivers using Toyota Allion and Premio cars urged to be on alert for carjackers

Based on investigations, the Police Force has learnt that the suspects would hire the taxis in Georgetown and ask to be taken to destinations such as North Ruimveldt, Atlantic Ville, East Coast Demerara, Providence, East Bank Demerara and West Demerara.

The Guyana Police Force is urging all taxi drivers, especially those using the Toyota Allion and Premio motor cars to be on the alert for hijackers, who may be posing as passengers.

According to a statement from the Police, the suspected hijackers are believed to be seven men. Two are believed to be afro-Guyanese, two are believed to be indo-Guyanese, another two are of mixed race while the seventh man sports a dreadlocked hairstyle.

Based on investigations, the Police Force has learnt that the suspects would hire the taxis in Georgetown and ask to be taken to destinations such as North Ruimveldt, Atlantic Ville, East Coast Demerara, Providence, East Bank Demerara and West Demerara.

However, upon arrival at their requested destinations, the drivers would be relieved of their cars and personal belongings.

There have been a number of reported incidents that triggered the Police Force’s advisory.  Cars that work in the Stabroek Market area have found themselves being targeted.

The Guyana Police Force is appealing to the public to provide any information that could lead to the identification or arrest of the suspects.

The Police Force promises that all information will be treated with strict confidentiality.
