Teenage girls arrested for murder of father; Police hunt third suspect

Two teen girls have reportedly confessed to the brutal murder of their 64 – year – old father at the weekend.

Police investigators believe Roger Manikam’s 13-year-old adopted daughter and his 18-year-old biological daughter Nalanie Manikam along with the help of a male friend planned and executed the murder of the man.

His body was later wrapped in construction plastic and dumped on the Railway Embankment at Coldingen along the East Coast of Demerara and discovered on Sunday.

The murder took place on Saturday evening.

During questioning on Monday, the daughters admitted to investigators from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) that they had murdered the man they described as a drunkard.

A piece of rope found at the Non Pariel home of the man was similar to the one that was used to tie the man up.

This reportedly caused investigators to become suspicious. Investigations suggest that it was the male friend that committed the act using a sharp instrument believed to be an axe, after being lured into the kitchen by his daughters.

They related that they had concocted a plan to get rid of their father and more so, to make it appear as though he was killed on his way home from one of his drinking sprees.

The detectives believe the man was then wrapped in the plastic and transported to the area where he was dumped.

Police are now hunting the third suspect who is said to be a Clerk at a Magistrates’ Court. The girls remain in police custody and are expected to make a court appearance before the end of the week.
