Teenager and two men arrested in gun running operation

The Guyana Police Force has announced the arrest of a 16-year-old boy and two men in a gun running operation that linked the interior mining areas to Georgetown.

In a statement, the Police Force said an intelligence led operation this morning by Police ranks in ‘C’ Division, resulted in the arrest of the teen and the other two men.

During that operation, the Police seized one .40 Taurus Pistol with six live rounds, two .32 Special Revolvers with four live rounds and seventy nine grams of marijuana.

The two men have been identified by Police sources as 28-year-old Christopher Marques and 41-year-old Embryo Crawford, Both are from the Sophia community.  The teen who has also been arrested is from the same community.

It is suspected that the three would trade guns coming over from Brazil and Venezuela for gold in the gold mining communities. They are also suspected of renting the weapons to persons in the Georgetown area. Ballistics tests are to be carried out on the weapons that have been seized.

The teen is also being probed in connection with a robbery under arms case which took place in the Sophia community last night.
