Just before she handed down the the two sentences, the Judge emphasized that during the man's time as a Trade Unionist, he would have fought against sexually violence, but he violated the young woman's trust and has now left her with a scar for the rest of her life.

A Trade Unionist walked briskly into Court today to face a verdict for the rape of an 8-year-old girl, but his confidence ended when he was slapped with two life in prison sentences after the jury returned a guilty verdict.

The man,  Michael Williams stood before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow and showed no emotions throughout the appearance.

In response to the sentence, Williams still maintained that he is innocent.

He further went on to say that today marked the most terrifying day in his life and he finds it strange that the Jury found him guilty of both counts of rape.

Just before she handed down the the two sentences, the Judge emphasized that during the man’s time as a Trade Unionist, he would have fought against sexual violence, but he violated the young woman’s trust and has now left her with a scar for the rest of her life.

Williams was charged on two counts of rape of the 8-year-old girl. The incident reportedly took place between the 1st January, 2016 and the end of last year.

He will not be eligible for any parole for the next two decades.
