Two men in custody after admitting to rape and murder of 13-year-old boy

The Guyana Police Force has confirmed that it has two men in custody for the rape and murder of a 13-year-old boy from East Bank Berbice.

The teenager’s body is still to be recovered but the two men have admitted to dumping the lad’s body in the Berbice river after they sodomised him into an unconscious state.

The teen, Leonard Archibald, was last seen riding a relative’s bicycle through Sister’s Village, East Bank Berbice, on Sunday evening.

He had reportedly left a party in a nearby village to go meet two of his sisters.  Family members became concerned and contacted Police after the youth never returned home.

The two suspects were reportedly arrested earlier this week after persons in the area recounted that they had heard screams coming from the home of one of the men.

On Friday, the two reportedly confessed to the crime and led investigators to the area where they claim the teen’s body was dumped along with the bicycle that he had been riding.

The bicycle has been recovered but investigators continue to comb the area for the teen’s body. The Guyana Police Force has activated its marine unit to conduct additional searches in the Berbice river.

One of the suspects was reportedly fingered in a previous abduction and sexual assault of another teen a few years ago. It is unclear what became of that case and the investigations linked to it.

Investigators are continuing their probe today and will return to the area where it is believed the youth’s body was dumped.
