Two taxi drivers charged for murder of Multiplex Mall owner

Two taxi drivers who were arrested in a Craig, East Bank Demerara house last week, were today charged and remanded to prison for the murder of businessman, Ganesh Ramlall, AKA as “Boyo”.

The two were identified as 21-year-old Fazeel Bacchus and 32-year-old Lennox Roberts. They appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Ann Mclennan and were not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.

It is alleged that the duo, along with others murdered the Regent Multiplex Mall owner while carrying out a robbery at his La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara  home on July 05.

Bacchus of Corniela Ida is reportedly the mastermind behind the robbery but the two were remanded until August 3.

Ganesh was shot several times, including once to his head just before midnight on July 05. He had just returned home and ventured into his yard when he came face to face with the gunmen who shot him dead before fleeing with his valuables.

The two were later arrested on July 14 when the Guyana Police Force SWAT team cornered several suspected bandits in the Craig home.

A man who was wanted for murder and who was also fingered in Ramlall’s murder, was shot dead while a policeman was shot in his thigh in the gunfire exchange.

Investigators have linked a gun and stolen articles found in the house to at least one other murder and the high profile armed robbery of Land Court Judge Nicole Peirre. The Judge and her husband were badly beaten by a number of bandits who invaded their home.

Three other men were today refused bail in connection with that home invasion and robbery.
