Venezuelan night club dancer charged for illegal entry into Guyana
Following the early Mondary morning raid at the Diamond nightclub, a Venezuelan woman was yesterday charged and released on $20,000 bail for the offence of illegal entry.
The woman, Maria Alexandra Manchingo, stood before Chief Magistrate, Ann Mclennan and pleaded not guilty to offence of illegal entry.
The court heard that defendant entered Guyana illegally via Lethem in September, 2017. She denied the allegation.
She was held and taken into custody following a raid by Police  of the Diamond nightclub in Georgetown, where she worked as a dancer.
A check of her passport found that she had never presented herself to an immigration officer in Guyana and that triggered the charge.
The woman’s Attorney claimed that she did present herself to an immigration officer but no entry stamp was placed in her passport.
Over 40 foreign women were taken into custody on Monday when the Police raided the nightclub. Police suspect that many of the women may have been brought to Guyana to work as strippers in the club.  Over 30 of the women are now being housed at a city hotel as Police investigators look into any possible links to human trafficking.
