“Very very sick” Ramsammy pulls out of PPP’s parliamentary list

Less than 24 hours after the PPP released its list of candidates who have been selected to serve as Members of Parliament, former Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy has indicated to the People’s Progressive Party that he will be unable to join the party as one of those Members of Parliament.

According to reports, Dr. Ramsammy is currently in the United States being treated for an undisclosed ailment.

He has in the past suffered from heart related issues.  At a press conference at Freedom House on Wednesday morning, former President Donald Ramotar told the media that Dr. Ramsammy is “very very sick” and therefore will not be able to serve as a Member of Parliament although he really wanted to do so.

In the lead up to the elections, Ramsammy’s name was initially left off of the PPP’s list of candidates and reports circulated that he would have been unable to campaign for the party because of health issues.

Ramsammy himself shot down those rumours and returned to Guyana after a brief period away to join the party’s campaign.

Though he was then listed as a candidate and was on the campaign trail, he kept a low profile at rallies and public meetings. He would instead turn to writing notes on his Facebook page to make known his thoughts on several issues.

Just recently he joined the Harvard School of Public Health for a special position and attended several events for the medical school in the United States.

The PPP is expected to name a replacement for Ramsammy and also to name one other member for Parliament since the list that was dispatched to the media only had 31 members including Ramsammy.
