Victoria miner found chopped to death in Mahdia

Investigators from the Guyana Police Force are probing the murder of a miner at Mahdia after the man’s blood soaked body was found on a roadside in the community on Saturday morning.

The dead miner has been identified as 57-year-old Charles Major who is originally from the village of Victoria on the East Coast of Demerara.  The man’s body was found clad only in his underwear. There were several chop wounds to the head, back and side of the body.

The investigators are examining several motives including robbery. It is suspected that he may have been attacked in his sleep while in his mining camp, and his body later dumped to the roadside.
