The Guyana Police Force on Tuesday issued a wanted bulletin for 29-year-old Kenroy Anthony Augustus Joseph whose last known address is 69 D’Anrade Street, Newtown Kitty.
The man is the former personal assistant to the Junior Agriculture Minister. He is wanted in connection with last Friday’s cocaine bust at the Cheddi Jagan Airport which resulted in a husband and wife being charged after over 40 pounds of cocaine was found in their suitcases.
The Police believe it was Kenroy Joseph who tendered a forged letter from the Agriculture Ministry to the Cheddi Jagan Airport for use of the VIP lounge. That permission was granted and it is alleged that Joseph pretended to be a protocol officer and got the cocaine carrying couple full access to the vip area.
Sources familiar with the investigations have told News Source that it appears that although the man left the personal assistant job at the Agriculture Ministry back in June, 2014, the information was never passed on to management at the airport. Reports suggest that Joseph would present bogus letters to the airport and be granted use of the vip lounge for various outgoing passengers. The situation may have been ongoing for months.
Last Friday, members of the Police Narcotics Branch began to ask questions about the VIP access and the husband and wife who were seated in the area. The two were called out and when additional checks were carried out on their suitcases, the over 40 pounds of the illegal substance was found neatly stashed. They were immediately arrested but Joseph had already made his escape.
