Nearly over week after an Agricola teen, who escaped lawful custody was caught hiding in a barrel, he made his first appearance in Court to answer to several armed robbery charges along with discharging a loaded firearm.

18-year-old, Melvor Jeffery, stood before the Court and faced  seven criminal charges which included five armed robbery charges.

The Court heard that on the the 3rd January at Tuschen Housing Scheme, while being in the company of another armed man, he used a handgun to rob Latchmini Kumar of several items,which included $340,000 cash.

On the 9th November, 2016 at Anna Catherina, the man is also accused of robbing Rafeek Ali of cash totaling $40,000 .

Additionally, the Court was told that on May 24th in Tuschen, the accused being armed with a gun, robbed Alexis Pollard of items that included her wedding ring, which totaled more than $245,000.

He is also accused of robbing Acacie Persaud and Hanrinice Persaud of several items valuing more than $350,000 on the same day at  Peters Hall.

The Police Prosecutor objected to bail based on the fact that more changes are likely to be to be laid against the defendant for escaping lawful custody.

He was previously arrested after being involved in a shoot out with Police. He escaped while under guard at the Georgetown Hospital but was nabbed in an Agricola House, hiding  out in a barrel with a plastic bag over his head.

The three persons who reportedly harboured him in the house were all charged for harbouring a fugitive. One of the three has since been sentenced to three years in jail, while the other two have been remanded.
